Pepperl+Fuchs’ ecom Collaborates with Samsung to Deliver Zone 1/Division 1 Certified Tablet for Hazardous Industries

P

Press Release

Tablet increases safety, ease-of-use for mobile workers in oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceuticals and other hazardous industries

TWINSBURG, OH (January 22, 2019) - ecom, a Pepperl+Fuchs brand and pioneer in hazardous area mobile devices, today introduced the next generation of their groundbreaking Tab-Ex 02® DZ1 , a tablet based on the ruggedized Samsung Galaxy Tab Active2. The new tablet, which is certified 'intrinsically safe' - a protection technique for the safe operation of electrical equipment in hazardous areas - provides a powerful digital solution for mobile workers in industries ranging from oil & gas to refining to chemicals & pharmaceuticals.

Industrial workers require the safest, most reliable communications methods available, and the Tab-Ex 02 DZ1 using the Samsung Tab Active2 platform offers industrial workers a way to communicate in real-time onsite or remotely. With this device, they can collect data, parameters, and information safely while operating in hazardous locations such as oil rigs, airline refueling stations, and bio gas storage facilities.

The Tab-Ex 02 DZ1 is the next generation of the first intrinsically safe tablet designed for hazardous environments, delivered by ecom. Using Samsung's Tab Active2 platform, it incorporates ruggedization in a tablet that allows for applications enabling key functions customized for business. Employees in hazardous environments have a digital tool for safely engaging in enterprise resource planning, project management systems and computer-aided system planning. A compact and lightweight tablet, it can also be used to manage inventory, track materials, and conduct asset management.

"We are excited about the possibilities that our collaboration with Samsung will bring to hazardous industries," said Lothar Berger, Director of the Global Mobile Team at Pepperl+Fuchs. "By combining the market leader in hazardous-rated instruments and devices with the leading innovator in enterprise mobility, the possibilities are endless. Pepperl+Fuchs' deep understanding of the chemical and oil and gas industries, and Samsung's expertise in providing solutions for businesses undergoing digital transformation, will help drive success in this industry."

The Tab-Ex 02 DZ1 is ideally suited for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)-capable applications, which includes simplifying data exchange with SCADA/DCS systems. With military-grade certified[1] Samsung Galaxy Tab Active2 technology enabling access in rainy or inclement weather, workers have the ability to use the touch screen while wearing work gloves or write with the S Pen while in the rain.

"We built the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active2 to withstand the toughest environments," said Jen Langan, Senior Director, B2B Mobile Product Marketing, Samsung Electronics America. "Now, with the Tab Active2 serving as the platform to ecom's device, we are excited to have the opportunity to help many more businesses – in this case, those facing hazardous environments -- gain a simple and safe digital solution to empower their mobile workforce."

The Tab-Ex 02 DZ1 will be available in early 2019.
